Siliguri, 03rd December The Matigara police in plain clothes have arrested the absconding accused son-in-law who had carried out a violent attack on his aunt-in-law after failing to meet his wife.
The arrested accused has been identified as Noor Alam, a resident of Phansidewa. He was arrested from Lenin Colony in Matigara on Tuesday.
The incident took place last Wednesday night around 8 p.m. in a dark lane of Matigara’s Ram Krishna Para, where a woman named Ranju Khatun, a resident of Bhanga Pool, was attacked with a sharp weapon.
Following the incident, panic spread across the area. Critically injured Ranju was admitted to a private hospital in Matigara and has been under treatment for the past several days.
Based on CCTV footage from the spot and the woman’s statement, police identified Noor as the prime accused. Investigation revealed that the attack stemmed from family disputes.
Noor had married Ranju’s elder sister’s daughter a few months ago despite already being married. After his first wife left for her parental home, he married again. His second wife also later left the house.
Police further stated that Noor had seen photos of his wife with Ranju Khatun on social media. On the day of the incident, he went to Ranju’s house demanding to meet his wife, leading to an argument. In a fit of rage after being denied the meeting, Noor attacked Ranju with a sharp weapon and fled.
After multiple raids, police received information on Tuesday that Noor had arrived at a relative’s house in Lenin Colony. Acting swiftly, police cordoned off the area and arrested him. However, the sharp weapon used in the attack is yet to be recovered. The accused will be produced in Siliguri court on Wednesday with a prayer for police remand. Investigation is ongoing.
