Siliguri, 03rd May: With just hours left for the declaration of the West Bengal Assembly election results, preparations for celebrations have already begun across Siliguri.
Markets in the city are witnessing a surge in demand for ‘abir’ as political supporters gear up for the outcome.
Shops across the city have been stocked with vibrant colours including saffron, green, yellow, and red. Traders report that around 28 tons of ‘abir’ have been brought in to meet the rising demand ahead of the results.
According to colour merchants of Mahabirsthan, nearly 15 to 18 tons have already been sold out of the two truckloads received. The demand trend shows saffron leading with nearly 60 percent, followed by green at around 40 percent.
Traders also noted that demand for saffron ‘abir’ is particularly high in the Dooars and Hill regions. However, they expressed surprise over the lack of demand from the Darjeeling region, which usually contributes significantly to sales.
Traders said that only after the announcement of the election results will it become clear which colour dominates the celebrations. For now, markets remain prepared, with stocks ready and anticipation building.
