57-year old trampled to death by a wild elephant in Alipurduar

Alipurduar, 30th April: A wild elephant claimed the life of a 57-year-old man named Aaytaram Lama, a resident of the Kalchini Bhatpara area.


As per the report, the incident took place when the elderly man went inside the Raimatang Depot jungle to collect mushrooms. The forest department officials, upon sighting the dead body on Thursday morning, reported the incident to the Kalchini police, who reached the spot shortly after, recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy.

On the other hand, Range Officer Ashish Mandal stated that despite repeated reminders to not enter the forest premises without emergencies, some villagers are violating the restrictions, leading to such unfortunate events.
