5 lakh relief given to kin of Madhyamik candidate killed in elephant attack

Rajganj, 24th February: Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Moumita Godara Basu, Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy on Friday handed over a check of Rs 5 lakhs to Bishnu Das, father of deceased Arjun Kumar Das of Maharaj Ghat of Mantadari Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block.


On Thursday, Bishnu Das, a resident of Maharaj Ghat of Mantadari Gram Panchayat of Rajganj block, was taking his son to the examination center on a bike yesterday. While on their way, an elephant attacked them. Due to which Arjun Kumar Das, a Madhyamik candidate, died in the elephant attack.

After this, Jalpaiguri DM Moumita Godara Basu and Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy met the family of the deceased today and handed over a check of five lakh rupees to the administrative officials. Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Kumar Chaturvedi, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Ujjwal Ghosh, Belakoba Ranger Sanjay Dutta, Rajganj BDO Pankaj Konar and other officers were present on the occasion.


Jalpaiguri District Magistrate Moumita Godara Basu said that the family has been provided with financial assistance today. The Jalpaiguri DM further added that they will help the family in all possible ways and also expressed her condolences on the demise of the young student. She further added that along with this, the road in the forest area where the accident took place has been closed. Along with this, patrolling and mining is being done by the Forest Department.

At the same time, Rajganj MLA Khageswar Roy expressed grief over the sad incident. He said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, a check of Rs 5 lakh was handed over to the family today and they stand with the family in their dire time of need.
