Mirik, 04th July: The incident of brutal murder of a 48-year-old woman created a stir in the School Dara area under Ward No. 03 of Mirik’s Okaity Tea Garden. The deceased has been identified as Tara Chettri.
As per the reports, an unidentified person killed Tara Chettri at her residence and threw her body under the bed. While her 09-year-old granddaughter was gagged and her hands were tied. The matter came to light this morning only after the granddaughter somehow managed to run to her neighbour’s house and informed them about the incident.
Upon receiving the news, Mirik police station In-Charge Sudip Kumar Biswas and policemen rushed to the spot and recovered the woman’s body and sent it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. As of now, the motive for the murder has not been disclosed. However, police are investigating the incident and have assured to arrest the culprit soon.
After the incident, an atmosphere of grief and terror has engulfed the area. Locals stated that Tara Chettri lived with her granddaughter and her husband is working in BSF. Also, their son works in Bengaluru and their daughters are married. The locals have demanded an unbiased inquiry into the murder and immediate arrest of the accused.
