4 of a marriage party die in a car accident near Mongpong’s Rundung Bridge

Kalimpong, 28th January: A sumo car of the groom returning after the wedding met with an accident on Friday night at Rungdung bridge adjacent area to Kalimpong’s Mongpong. Fortunately, the bride and groom were saved but the accident claimed the lives of four who have been identified as Sahil Sheikh, Shukla Kundu, Tilak Mandal, and Raju Sheikh. Out of four, two deceased were residents of Siliguri. At the same time, several have been injured in the said incident.


Reportedly, Rajesh Ekka from Siliguri went to get married in Banarhat. After the wedding, the newly married couple and others were returning home in a Sumo car. While returning the car went rampant and fell into the river from the Rungdung bridge of Mongpong police station. As soon as the news of the incident was received, the police of Mongpong Out Post reached the spot. After the incident, the injured were rescued and taken to Oodlabari Rural Hospital, where doctors declared two brought dead. While the other two died while being taken to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. While the rest including the newly married couple are under medical treatment.

OC Mangal Singh of Mongpong Out Post of Kalimpong district said that the accident took place around 1 am. The vehicle has been lifted with the help of a crane. Four people died in the incident. He further added that the post-mortem of the dead bodies will be done today. The incident is being investigated.
