Siliguri, 19th December: A horrific fire incident that took place on November 19 in Khudiram Pally area of Ward No. 18 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation completely burnt about 28 houses into ashes. The arson burnt all the household items of 50 families making them homeles.
After the terrible incident of arson, Mayor Goutam Deb assured the families that suffered in the arson that they would be rehabilitated into new houses. The construction of which is under process.
In this regard, Ward Councilor Sanjay Sharma said that one month has passed since the incident of arson and Mayor Goutam Deb has fulfilled his promise about building houses. The SMC will hand over the keys of the new houses to the said affected 28 families in February of the upcoming year. The said construction work is being completed at a cost of about Rs 85 to 90 lakh rupees.
At the same time, the locals said that the SMC and the Ward Councilor have fulfilled what they had promised. Arrangements are being made to rehabilitate them and they are beyond happy and grateful for that.
