2021 Bengal assembly elections: Protest in Rajganj demanding replacement of TMC candidate

Rajganj, 09th March: Supporters of Trinamool leader Krishna Das staged protests in 13 zones of Rajganj block demanding the change of the party’s candidate for the Rajganj assembly constituency in the Jalpaiguri district.

As per the information, Krishna Das’ supporters gathered at the block’s 13 zones around 11 in the morning and staged protests against the decision to appoint Khageswar Roy as the party’s candidate for the Rajganj assembly constituency. The demonstrators took out rallies, staged road blockades and burned effigies. Likewise, in the Rangdhamali area of Rajganj, protesters made an effigy with a picture of Khageshwar Roy, which had a liquor bottle hung around its neck.

Apparently, speculations of Jalpaiguri district SC/ST/OBC Cell Chairman and Trinamool leader Krishna Das being picked as the party’s candidate for Rajganj assembly seat was high. Reportedly, Das had also hoped for the same. However, when the TMC chief Mamata Banerjee announced Khageshwar Roy as the candidate, the news did not sit well with Krishna Das and his supporters.
