Youth allegedly assaulted in Siliguri; BJP stages protest at police station

Siliguri, 09th July: BJP staged a protest at Siliguri police station after a youth was allegedly forcefully taken from Hawkers’ Corner and assaulted. The protest included a road blockade that lasted for several hours.

Reports state that a few days ago, a cricket match was held in Jyoti Nagar Colony of Ward No. 20, during which a dispute broke out between local youths and a group from Dangipara. Though the matter was initially resolved with the intervention of the local councillor, tensions resurfaced.

On Tuesday, around 15-20 youths allegedly attacked a worker at a shop in Hawkers’ Corner, forcefully took him to Dangipara, and assaulted him severely. The victim later managed to return home safely.

Following the incident, the victim’s family and local residents gathered at Siliguri police station demanding immediate action. Tensions heightened further when police allegedly detained the assaulted youth instead of the attackers.

On Wednesday, BJP leaders including MLA Shankar Ghosh and Opposition Leader in the Siliguri Municipal Corporation Amit Jain, along with party workers and the victim’s family, staged a protest at the police station. The road blockade ended after police assured appropriate action.
