Kharibari, 19th July: A major tragedy was averted after a young woman became stranded in the middle of the Mechi River while allegedly attempting to cross into India through the Panitanki area along the India-Nepal border in Kharibari.
According to reports, the woman was crossing the river when the water level suddenly rose, leaving her trapped in the strong current. Upon the matter coming to the attention of the border security personnel, officials from Nepal Police, launched a swift rescue operation.
The woman was safely rescued and later taken to a hospital in Nepal for medical treatment.
The incident created concern in the border area. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led the woman to attempt crossing the river despite the risks posed by the swollen river.
