Workers protest in demand to reopen closed biscuit factory in Ambari

Rajganj, 03rd February: A huge protest was staged in front of Sanjay Biscuit Factory on Thursday in Ambari at Rajganj. The workers demanded the factory be reopened at the earliest. Trinamool Industrial Estate Workers Union of Jalpaiguri District Secretary Tapan Dey and Unit Secretary Nirmal Barman were also present during the protest.


As per the report, about 150 workers are employed in Sanjay Biscuit Factory. Two months ago the factory management announced the lockout.

In this regard, Trinamool Industrial Estate Workers Union of Jalpaiguri District Secretary Tapan Dey alleged that the workers are not being paid on time. Furthermore, no money is being deposited into the workers’ account despite the deduction of ESI and PF from their wages. Also, they did not receive any puja bonuses.


Dey further accused the owner of framing the workers’ with false allegations and shutting down the factory. Allegedly, several bilateral meetings were held to resolve the issue, however, the owner failed to attend any.

The protester stated that if the factory does not reopen within 10 days, the organization will stage a massive protest in front of the head office. Meanwhile, the owner did not make any comment on the issue.
