Woman injured in leopard attack in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 19th March: 38-year-old Anita Subba sustained a severe head injury in a leopard attack. The news surfaced from Vijay Nagar Tea Garden under the Naxalbari police station area, on Thursday evening.


According to Communist Party of India (Marxist)(CPIM) Naxalbari Area Committee member Raju Sarkar, the leopard attacked Anita at around 4 pm on Thursday, while she was working in the tea garden with other workers. She was rushed to Naxalbari Hospital, where doctors further referred her to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. However, considering her grave injures, the woman was admitted to a private nursing home.

After the incident, tea workers skipped work today and laid siege to the Tukuria Jhad Forest Department, demanding immediate action against the unfortunate incident. The forest department has assured to conduct a search for the wild animal and install two cages to capture it. CITU president Gautam Ghosh, Raju Sarkar, Toofan Mallik, R. Mukherjee, tea workers, and others were present in the meeting.
