Kharibari, 18th June: A woman died after being struck by lightning in the Gauri Jote area of Kharibari on Wednesday night, casting a pall of gloom over the locality. The deceased has been identified as Gita Roy.
According to family sources, the incident took place at around 9:30 PM when Geeta Roy was working near a water tap adjacent to her house. During a spell of severe weather, she was struck by lightning and collapsed unconscious on the spot. Family members immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The sudden incident has left the bereaved family and residents of the area in shock and mourning.
Kharibari Police have recovered the body and initiated the process of sending it to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway.
