Wild elephant dies of high-voltage electrocution in Nagrakata

Nagrakata, 31st October: An adult elephant died after coming in contact with a live electric wire near Kherkata area under Bamandanga Tea Estate of Nagrakata block.


According to sources, the carcass of the wild elephant was spotted lying in the areca nut farm this morning by Mofizul Haque, a local of the area. Following this, Kherkata beat, Khunia Range and Nagrakata police reached the spot as soon as they received information regarding the incident.

As per the forest department, the electrical wires were installed around the premises of a house in the village. The elephant electrocuted itself while trying to enter the house.


It is to be noted, earlier too, an elephant died in Bamandanga tea plantation due to electrocution. Forest authorities stated that action will be taken as per the law set for elephant death due to electric shock.
