‘We Have Not Forgotten’ posters featuring old image of Saikat Chatterjee spark political row in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri, 24th June: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Jalpaiguri after posters carrying an old photograph of Jalpaiguri Municipality Chairman Saikat Chatterjee appeared across key parts of the town overnight.

The posters, bearing the message “We Have Not Forgotten”, feature a photograph in which effigies carrying the images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are seen being dragged with ropes during a past political protest. Saikat Chatterjee can also be seen in the photograph.

The sudden reappearance of the old image on posters across the town has triggered widespread discussion in political circles. The posters were reportedly put up under the cover of darkness at several prominent locations in Jalpaiguri.

The BJP alleged that Chatterjee had participated in such a programme as part of what it described as “cheap politics” and claimed that people are now responding to that incident in their own way.

Reacting to the controversy, Saikat Chatterjee dismissed the allegations and claimed that the posters were put up with the intention of tarnishing his image. He alleged that a section of people had become uncomfortable after both the Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister praised his work, and were now attempting to drag him into a political controversy by circulating an old photograph.
