Ward No. 46 Dhaknikata residents stage road blockade demanding proper drainage system

Siliguri, 01st September: The Ward No. 46 Dhaknikata area has been flooded with water after heavy rain lashed parts of North Bengal since last night.

The agitated residents of the ward, on Tuesday, set up bamboo barricades in front of the road of Sri Guru Vidya Mandir and shouted slogans against the public representatives. The protest lasted for several hours.

Upon receiving the news, the Pradhan Nagar police reached the spot shortly after and brought the situation under control. The protestors lifted the road blockade after the police officials assured of providing a solution in this regard.

Meanwhile, locals complained that every year, they are forced to deal with water-logging during the monsoons and the problem concerning rainwater accumulation persists due to the poor drainage system in the area. They further alleged that despite reporting the matter to the ward coordinator, no initiatives have been taken so far.

The protestors warned of staging larger demonstrations if the ward co-ordinator does not take any action in this regard soon.
