Siliguri, 02nd April: Sensation ensued in the area after an unidentified body of an elderly man was recovered from the Mahananda river in the Porajhar area adjacent to Noukaghat of Siliguri.
Reportedly, some children who reached the river on Sunday morning saw the dead body. Eyewitnesses told that the elderly man himself had entered the river and immersed himself in the water. But, later he was not seen coming out of the river. After some time his body was seen floating in the river.
After the incident, the NJP police were informed about the same. As soon as the news was received, the police reached the spot and recovered the body of the elderly and sent it for postmortem to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
According to local sources, the elderly man was spotted roaming in the area adjacent to Noukaghat for several days. A bandage was also tied to his head due to an injury. However, the police are probing into the entire incident.
