Siliguri, 24th June: A serious incident has come to light from the Matigara police station area, where the sons of a Trinamool Congress Panchayat Pradhan have been accused of raping, forcibly marrying, and wrongfully confining a minor girl.
Based on a written complaint by the minor’s family, the police took action and arrested Surjit Roy, the younger son of the Patiram Jote Panchayat Pradhan, on charges of rape, and the elder son, Samrat Roy, on charges of forced marriage and wrongful confinement.
According to the police, the accused initially trapped the minor under the pretext of love and established physical relations with her. Later, she was forcibly married at a young age and kept confined away from her family for several months.
The family members stated that the girl remained away from them for a long time. The entire matter came to light when she later came into contact with them. Following this, a complaint was lodged at the Matigara police station with the help of local residents.
Upon receiving the complaint, the police initiated an investigation into the matter. Based on the preliminary investigation, a case was registered against both sons of the Panchayat Pradhan under the POCSO Act and the Child Marriage Act, and they were produced before the Siliguri Court on Wednesday.
As news of the incident spread, public anger erupted in the area. A large number of local residents reached the Matigara police station and demanded justice.
