Two smugglers arrested with gold worth Rs 68 lakh in Rajganj

Rajganj, 31st March: Sensation prevailed after more than 1 kg of gold was recovered while it was being smuggled hidden under the brake cover of the vehicle. Reportedly, the DRI team foiled the smugglers’ plan while running a campaign. Two accused have been arrested in the said case. The accused have been identified as Narayan Sharma and Kuber Prasad Khatiwada, a resident of Assam and Manipur respectively.


Reportedly, on Friday, acting on a tip-off, the team of Siliguri unit of DRI launched a campaign near the Fatapukur Panikauri toll plaza of Rajganj. Meanwhile, a vehicle bearing an Assam number plate heading toward Siliguri was intercepted. On conducting the search, 8 pieces of gold bangles were recovered from inside the back cover of the vehicle. During this, Narayan Sharma and Kuber Prasad Khatiwad failed to show the valid documents of the recovered gold. After this, both were arrested.

Regarding the same, DRI’s lawyer Ratan Banik said that the weight of the recovered gold is about 1 kg 163 grams, whose market value has been estimated at around Rs 68 lakh, 62,000. It has been told that the said gold was going to be smuggled to Nepal via Siliguri via Assam. But before that, the DRI team arrested the accused. Today both the accused have been produced in the Siliguri court.
