Two arrested with firearms in Siliguri in two different cases

Siliguri, 06th April: The NJP police have arrested two youth with firearms in two different cases of Siliguri, on Monday night.


 

According to information, the police of NJP police station campaigned in plain attire and arrested a youth with firearms in front of the railway hospital. The said youth is identified as Vibash Dutta, resident of A-Block Suryasen colony. The police recovered a country-made pistol and a round cartridge from the accused. Vibhas Dutta has apparently been involved in various criminal activities.


Meanwhile, Bhaktinagar police arrested another youth named Kalu Dey alias ‘Sanjay’ with firearms from Hyder Para Market Complex area on the same night.

Reportedly, the accused was seen riding a scooter around the Hyder Para Market area, last night. Under suspicion, police detained him and recovered three rounds of ammunition including a pistol tied to his waist. Both accused were produced in Jalpaiguri court, on Tuesday.

It is to be noted, the fifth phase of voting is going to be held in many other assemblies in North Bengal, including the Siliguri assembly, on April 17. For the following reasons, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is on a tour of North Bengal for the campaign. Imminent leaders of various political parties are visiting the city for campaigning. Hence, frequent seizure of firearms in the city has raised administrative concerns.
