Two arrested with brown sugar worth Rs 5 lakh in Siliguri

Siliguri, 25th March: In the greed of Rs 500 and at the behest of a friend, the young man got himself trapped in a drug smuggling case. On Friday night, two youths were arrested on the charges of peddling drugs during a joint operation of SOG and cops of Pradhan Nagar police station from Siliguri Junction area. The accused have been identified as Ahmed Masoori and Aditya Singh. Both are residents of Ward No. 01 of Siliguri. 


As per the information, 24-year-old Ahmed Mussoorie is a drug addict and apparently a supplier too. He had sent a consignment of brown sugar from Malda to Siliguri for smuggling. Ahmed then chose 19-year-old Aditya Singh as his mule and cleverly convinced him to deliver the drugs at the Junction in exchange for Rs 500. Aditya, a 12th standard student, in greed for money, reached the junction to deliver the package in a scooter. 

However, by then the police had been notified and promptly acting on a tip-off, a joint team of SOG and Pradhan Nagar police conducted a campaign in Junction and intercepted Aditya Singh and searched him. During this, the drugs were recovered from the trunk of the scooter. Soon Ahmed Masoori was also tracked down after interrogating Aditya.


According to police sources, 500 grams of brown sugar have been recovered from Aditya Singh’s possession, whose market value has been estimated at Rs 5 lakh. Police registered a case against the duo under the NDPS Act and arrested them. Today both the accused were produced in the Siliguri court. The police are probing the entire matter.
