Two arrested with brown sugar worth lakhs in Siliguri

Siliguri, 23rd March: SOG and the police of Panitanki Out Post have recovered brown sugar worth lakhs by running a joint operation. Along with this, two people have also been arrested. The accused have been identified as Ghulam Ali and Nair Ali, a resident of Kalikapur in Kaliachak, Malda, and Salugara respectively.


Acting on a tip-off, the SOG team and the police of Panitanki Out Post searched two people in dubious circumstances under the Mahananda Bridge adjacent to Mahakalpally Surya Sen Park. On searching them, a total of 583 grams of brown sugar was recovered from both the accused. After which both were arrested from the spot.

 


 

Reportedly, Ghulam Ali arrived under the Mahananda Bridge on Wednesday evening to deliver gram brown sugar to Nair Ali. But before that, the joint operation of SOG team and the police of Panitanki Out Post foiled their plans. However, the price of recovered brown sugar is estimated to be around Rs 40 lakhs. Meanwhile, the police of Panitanki Out Post have registered a case under the NDPS Act against Ghulam Ali and Nair Ali and produced them in court today. The police are probing the entire matter.
