Kharibari, 25th May: Two persons were arrested by Kharibari police following allegations of making objectionable remarks against the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The arrests were made based on a complaint lodged by leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party. The accused have been identified as Munna Singh and Jiban Das.
According to allegations, Munna Singh, a resident of Debiganj area under Binnabari Panchayat in Kharibari, made offensive remarks against the Prime Minister and his late mother in a video circulated on social media. The video reportedly triggered outrage in the area after it went viral.
Following the incident, BJP leaders and workers, including Siliguri organisational district secretary Anil Kumar Roy, demanded strict legal action and severe punishment against the accused. A written complaint was also lodged at the police station.
Police sources said the main accused was arrested based on the complaint, while another person alleged to be his associate was also taken into custody. The accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday.
