Two arrested from Murshidabad for threatening Siliguri’s Ward No. 8 Councilor Shalini Dalmia

Siliguri, 29th September: Police have arrested two people from Murshidabad for verbally abusing and threatening BJP councilor of Siliguri Municipal Corporation over a call. The two accused who have been identified as Biren Roy and Rajesh Roy were produced in the Siliguri court.


It is to be noted that Shalini Dalmia, BJP councilor of Ward No. 8 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation that on the night of September 25, a call was received on her mobile from an unknown number. On receiving the call she was threatened with verbal abuse and death over the phone. After which on September 26, the councilor lodged a complaint at the Siliguri police station.

The political atmosphere in Siliguri was heated regarding this incident. After thorough discussions in the party regarding the incident, pressure was also being exerted on the police to nab the accused at the earliest. Meanwhile, after the complaint was registered, the police engaged in the investigation started tracing the number from which the councilor had received the threat. After which the police learned that the number was from Murshidabad.


Acting promptly, on September 27, a police team left for Murshidabad and banned both the accused. The duo is said to have criminal background.
