Kharibari, 18th December: The Kharibari police foiled a major drug smuggling operation involving 129 kgs of cannabis hidden in a secret compartment of a pickup van. Two smugglers, identified as Bishnu Barman and Anupam Barman from Cooch Behar, were arrested in connection with the incident.
According to reports, on Tuesday night, the police suspected upon spotting a pickup van with an Alipurduar registration number. The officers conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and discovered a hidden compartment containing 129 kilograms of cannabis. The police suspect that the duo had planned to smuggle the cannabis from Cooch Behar to Bihar. The seized cannabis has an estimated market value of approximately ₹10 lakh.
Following their arrest, the smugglers were presented in Siliguri district court on Wednesday. The police are further investigating the case to identify if any other individuals are involved in the operation.
