Trinamool Youth Congress holds torch rally in Siliguri against BJP

Siliguri, 08th December: The Trinamool Youth Congress took out a torch rally against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Siliguri, Tuesday evening. Hundreds of Trinamool leaders and activists were present at the torch rally.


It is to recall, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) called for a 12-hour bandh across North Bengal today condemning the death of party worker, Ulen Roy, during the Uttarkanya campaign on Monday. During the protest in Tuesday afternoon, several BJP activists and supporters allegedly tore down and burnt the posters of state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Siliguri’s Mahatma Gandhi More (Airview More).


Following this, a large police force reached the spot and detained several BJP leaders and activists. The TMC leaders, including Trinamool Darjeeling District President Ranjan Sarkar, also highly condemned the incident. Meanwhile, the Trinamool activists and supporters staged a protest rally opposing the incident. The BJP party flags and festoons put up in the streets were allegedly torn down and burnt by the TMC activists.

Continuing the protest, the Trinamool took out a massive torch rally from Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri this evening in protest against the BJP. The said rally circled the Hillcart Road area. The rally was attended by Trinamool Congress Darjeeling District President Ranjan Sarkar and other leaders.

Meanwhile, during a press conference today, Minister Goutam Deb highly condemned the incident and said that a police complaint has been filed against the burning of the Chief Minister’s poster.
