Siliguri, 09th January: A massive fire broke out in a giant tree near Gyan Jyoti More on the road going from Darjeeling More to Sukna on Sunday late evening. At the same time, electricity service was cut off in the entire area due to the conflagration, to prevent bigger destructions or mishaps.
Seeing the fire surging, the locals informed the Matigara fire department. As soon as the news was received, two fire engines reached the spot. The fire was brought under control after a lot of work and effort by the firemen.
However, no loss of life or property in the said arson incident has been reported. It is speculated that sparks from the transformer near the tree would have started the fire.
