Fulbari, 06th August: New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Police seized around 60 kg of cannabis and arrested two persons before the contraband could allegedly be smuggled to another state. The seizure was made during a vehicle check at Jiaganj in Fulbari on Thursday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ukil Miyan and Santosh Ravidas, both residents of Cooch Behar.
According to police sources, officers intercepted a small vehicle on the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway near Jiaganj in Fulbari. During the search, police recovered around 60 kg of cannabis from the vehicle’s boot.
Police suspect that the seized cannabis was being transported from Dinhata in Cooch Behar via Siliguri for smuggling to another state. Acting on specific information, police carried out the operation and foiled the alleged smuggling attempt.
A case has been registered against the two accused. They will be produced before the Jalpaiguri District Court on Friday.
