Transgenders celebrate Bhai Dooj in Siliguri, applied tilak on brothers’ forehead

Siliguri, 27th October: Bhai Dooj is being celebrated across the country today. The day celebrates the bond between brother and sister. The festival is celebrated by sisters applying tilak on their brother’s forehead and wishes them a long and happy life.


In view of this, the festival was celebrated today in the area of Baribhasa VIP Road, Bhavesh More at homes of transgenders. During this, social worker Madan Bhattacharya and others’ forehead was adorned with tilak and tika from the hands of transgender sisters.

Speaking about the celebration, Madan Bhattacharya said that the main purpose to celebrate the day and apply tilak from the transgenders’ hand is to send a message of giving them equal status in the society. He further added transgender society is neglected and are always ignored by the society. Hence, people should try uplifting them by giving them equal status and treatment like we give others.


Celebrating the day with joy and happiness, two of transgender sisters named Sonali and Mayna said that the festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated every year. Every year they wait for Bhai Dooj and it gives them extreme happiness to apply tilak to the fellow brothers.
