Siliguri, 22nd July: A special traffic awareness drive was conducted by Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard of Siliguri Metropolitan Police at Vishal More on Sevoke Road on Wednesday to promote awareness about traffic rules among the public.
The campaign was led by Bhakti Nagar Traffic Guard OC Amartya Chakraborty. DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, ACP (Traffic) Subir Dutta, Bhakti Nagar Police Station IC Maheshwar Majhi, along with traffic officials, police personnel and civic volunteers, were present during the programme.
During the drive, bike riders found riding without helmets were stopped and provided with new helmets free of cost. Officials informed commuters that helmets are not just meant to avoid fines but are an important safety measure that can save lives during road accidents.
Vehicle owners were also urged to follow traffic rules, maintain speed limits and ensure safer road practices.
Additionally, raincoats, umbrellas, ORS and fruit juices were distributed among traffic police personnel and civic volunteers considering their duties during rainfall and extreme heat.
Police officials stated that such road safety and public awareness campaigns will continue across different parts of the city.
