Rajganj, 27th June: A historic and traditional ‘Raja Falakata’ puja was organised in Ambari under the Chhatiyabhita area near Rajganj block ahead of the ‘Aman Paddy’ cultivation season, drawing a large number of devotees.
As per local tradition, paddy cultivation begins only after the completion of this ritual, which is believed to bring good fortune. The puja is held annually during the month of ‘Ashar’, marking the beginning of the agricultural cycle in the region.
On Saturday, the rituals were performed with full religious customs, where three symbolic deities named Raja Falakata, Tula Kata, and Dhana Kata were worshipped. Devotees started arriving at the site since morning, leading to a significant gathering.
Committee member Manoranjan Roy said that according to local belief and oral history, the area was once surrounded by dense forests nearly 200 years ago and had wild animals including tigers. It is also believed that Goddess Chaudhurani once performed worship at the same site.
Apart from Raja Falakata, Tula Kata, and Dhana Kata, several other deities are also enshrined at the temple. Devotees from Rajganj block and nearby areas visit the site to offer prayers and make wishes.
Locals further said that offerings are made during the puja in the following year if wishes are fulfilled, making the tradition an integral part of the region’s cultural identity.
