TMC panchayat member assaulted in Siliguri, accused arrested

Siliguri, 10th April: The Ashighar Outpost police have arrested an individual accused of assaulting a Trinamool Congress (TMC) panchayat member. The arrested accused has been identified as Shambhu Das, a resident of Bowbazar area in Shanti Nagar.


As per police sources, on March 25, Dabgram II Gram Panchayat (GP) member of Fakdaibari panchayat Chumki Mandal Shil was returning home with her husband. During this, a few youths engaged in a verbal dispute with the Panchayat member and allegedly attacked her husband. While attempting to save her husband, the panchayat member was injured. Meanwhile, the attackers fled from the spot after the incident.

Later, Chumki Mandal Shil and her husband were admitted to Siliguri District Hospital and a written complaint was filed at Ashighar Outpost. Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation to nab the absconding accused. On Tuesday night, the cops of Ashighar Outpost arrested the accused Shambhu Das. On Wednesday, the police produced the accused before the Jalpaiguri court, while further investigation is underway.
