Fulbari, 14th May: Three youths were allegedly caught by local residents while attempting to buy brown sugar in the Kalangini area under Fulbari II Gram Panchayat. The incident created tension in the locality.
According to local sources, the three youths arrived in Kalangini village in three separate e-rickshaw (toto) vehicles. Suspicious over their behaviour, some women from the area stopped them and began questioning them.
During interrogation, the youths allegedly admitted that they had come to purchase brown sugar. However, they claimed they could not contact the person from whom they intended to buy the narcotics as the individual’s mobile phone was switched off.
As news of the incident spread, a large number of local residents gathered at the spot. NJP police station was informed and police soon reached the area, took the three youths into custody and launched an investigation into the matter.
After receiving information about the incident, BJP leader Matiur Rahman also reached the spot and spoke with local residents. He demanded immediate steps to stop the alleged drug trade in the area and urged the administration to take strict measures to protect youths from substance abuse.
Local residents alleged that a secret brown sugar trade has been continuing in several areas of Fulbari, including Kalangini, for a long time. They claimed many families have been affected and the younger generation is being pushed towards destruction due to drug abuse.
Residents demanded strict police action and immediate steps to completely stop the sale of drugs in the area. Police have started an investigation into the entire incident.
