Siliguri, 02nd November: Three people were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a lorry and a four-wheeler. The incident took place near Army Camp near NJP Station Road.
As per the report, the said lorry was leaving the NJP truck stand and was heading towards Eastern Bypass. After travelling a certain distance, the lorry suddenly lost control and rammed into a four-wheeler approaching from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision was so strong that the car was completely crushed and two people including the driver were seriously injured. They were rushed to the Siliguri District Hospital with the help of local people. Amidst the chaos, the lorry driver fled away from the scene.
Meanwhile, locals expressed anguish after the incident and started protesting by blocking the road. They alleged that accidents frequently occur on this route and despite getting many assurances, traffic arrangements have not yet been made. Traffic came to a standstill due to the road blockade.
On receiving the information, the police reached the spot and tried to remove the blockade. During this, an argument broke out between the locals and the police. However, later after getting assurance from the police, the people removed the blockade. The NJP police recovered both the crashed vehicles and are investigating the whole matter.
