Siliguri, 14th February: Thakur Panchanan Barma’s 157th birth anniversary was celebrated by Siliguri Municipal Corporation and SJDA, on Tuesday. Mayor Goutam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, other mayor-council and city officials paid tribute to the social reformer by garlanding his statue at Noukaghat More.
The Mayor threw light on various aspects of Burma who dedicated his life for the improvement of backward-class people, specifically the Rajbanshi community. He further added that Burma was a dynastic leader, politician, lawyer and social reformer from Cooch Behar. He founded the Kshatriya Sabhā (caste association) to instil Brahminical values and practices in people of the Rajbanshi community
