Tension gripped Siliguri’s NJP over partial demolition of temple

Siliguri, 08th June: Following the partial demolition of a temple and the alleged harassment of Trinamool Congress (TMC) councilor in NJP, an atmosphere of tension was witnessed in the area. Two factions of TMC clashed today over the demolition of a portion of the temple near Netaji More under Ward No. 35 of Siliguri.


In this regard, Ward Councilor Sampa Nandi alleged that upon receiving the news of the demolition she visited the said area, where she was harassed by Siliguri Town Block 3, New Jalpaiguri Branch of INTTUC President Sujay Sarkar and his supporters. Subsequently, today, Mayor Goutam Deb was informed about the matter.

On the other hand, Sujay Sarkar, President of Siliguri Town Block 3, New Jalpaiguri Branch of INTTUC, said that this temple was in a dilapidated condition for a long time due to which it was demolished to build a new temple.


Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
