Tanker rams into stationary trailer in Fulbari; driver injured

Fulbari, 02nd June: A major road accident occurred early Tuesday morning on the Siliguri–Jalpaiguri National Highway when a tanker loaded with mustard oil rammed into the rear of a stationary wheat-laden trailer near Murder More in Fulbari.

According to reports, the trailer was travelling from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh to Assam when one of its front tyres burst late Monday night. The vehicle was subsequently parked along the side of the highway near Murder More.

In the early hours of Tuesday, a mustard oil tanker heading towards Assam allegedly failed to notice the stationary trailer and crashed into it from behind.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the tanker, trapping the driver and his assistant inside the cabin.

Personnel from the Fulbari Highway Traffic Outpost, New Jalpaiguri Police Station and Fulbari Fire Station rushed to the spot. After nearly 30 minutes of rescue efforts, the injured driver was pulled out from the mangled cabin and shifted to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for treatment.

Police later removed both damaged vehicles from the highway and have launched an investigation into the incident.
