Siliguri, 29th August: An alleged incident of harassment of North Bengal University (NBU) female students was reported in the Matigara Police Station area on Raksha Bandhan night. Three youths allegedly harassed the students while they were returning home through Lenin Colony.
According to the allegations, the three youths, who were in an inebriated state, made indecent remarks at the students and then allegedly began harassing them.
The students showed courage, confronted the three youths, beat them and informed the police. Police reached the spot and arrested all three accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ashok Barman, Shiva Barman and Souvik Roy. All three are reportedly residents of the Shiv Mandir area.
Based on the students’ complaint, police registered a case against the accused and produced them before the Siliguri court on Saturday. Police are investigating the incident.
