Itahar, 12th May: Various areas of Itahar block recently witnessed heavy storms and hailstorms. Several houses and farmlands were damaged.
Farmers in the Marnai, Joyhat, and Chaya Ghora areas of Itahar block have been affected the most. Farmers said that due to the hailstorm, the paddy in the land has been washed away and the jute and maize stalks have been broken. Meanwhile, the newly elected MLA of Itahar Assembly Mosharraf Hossain inspected the affected areas.
MLA Mosharraf Hossain said that there was extensive crop damage in several areas of the Itahar block. “We visited the area and interacted with the affected farmers. I have notified the District Magistrate and block agriculture officer of Uttar Dinajpur district regarding the issue so that the farmers will get their compensation officially,” he added.
