Stolen segun wood worth lakhs recovered in Siliguri, government officials arrested

Siliguri, 04th August: The forest workers of Sarugara Range under Baikunthapur Forest Department arrested 7 people with a large quantity of stolen segun wood, on Tuesday night. Among the arrested, one is a customs officer and the other is a GST officer.


Based on a tip-off, the Sarugara Range learned that a huge quantity of stolen segun wood was hidden in a godown in the city. Following which, the forest department kept strict surveillance. On Tuesday night, a wood-laden lorry and a four-wheeler car were detained by the forest officials. A large quantity of segun wood worth Rs 25 lakh was recovered after conducting a search.


According to forest department sources, out of the seven arrested, one has been identified as Abhimunya Majhi, Customs Superintendent and the other as GST officer Debashish Dhar. The department had earlier suspended Dhar acting on various allegations against him. Jayanta Mandal, ADFO of the forest department, highly condemned the incident.
