Siliguri, 24th November: Residents today blocked the Jabarbhita VIP Road in Siliguri and staged a massive demonstration after the death of an eight-year-old. They condemned the dilapidated condition of the road and the negligent movement of trucks.
The said protest continued throughout the day with the locals barricading the road with bamboo and tin. During this, they demanded of complete end to the movement of big and heavy vehicles to ply on the said road.
ADCP Traffic Purnima Sherpa, DCP Traffic Abhishek Gupta, and DCP Sadar Joy Tudu reached the spot after getting information about the incident. But on the contrary, the police were surrounded by the locals. Later, after the intervention of the police, several speed breakers and barricades were installed on the VIP road with stones, sand, and cement. Following the incident, the traffic on the said road was shut down today.
