SMC workers face hurdle during demolition of unauthorized construction in Siliguri’s Ward No. 47

Siliguri, 16th February: In the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) workers faced several difficulties during the demolition of an unauthorized construction of a residence in the Pati Colony area under Ward No. 47 of Siliguri.

According to reports, on Friday, the workers had arrived in the area to demolish the unauthorized construction of a residence of the ward’s TMC General Secretary Soumitra Debnath, who was earlier notified to take the necessary steps. Significantly, the TMC election office was established under that residence.

The house owner asserted that several properties in the ward are on government land and alleged conspiracy behind the demolitions. Meanwhile, several others questioned the role of the ward councilor.

Later, the SDO was called and the SMC engineers reached the SDO’s office where a meeting was held to discuss the matter. Meanwhile, the demolition was halted. In this regard, Mayor Gautam Deb stated that the matter would be further discussed and work would be undertaken based on the procedure.
