SMC taken up to renovate pond of Suryasen Park, fishes released into Mahananda River

Siliguri, 20th March: Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken up the task of renovating the pond of Suryasen Park in Siliguri. Accordingly, the work has also commenced and the fish of the said pond have been released into the Mahananda river today in the presence of Siliguri’s Mayor Goutam Deb, and Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar. 


The Mayor said that the pond of Siliguri Suryasen Park will be renovated in a new way by nature-friendly standards. Earlier they were anticipating keeping the fish somewhere, but later it was decided to release them in the Mahananda River. After this, the fish were released into the river today. 

Responding to the question of how safe it is for the fish to be released in the Mahananda River, the mayor said that the Siliguri Municipal Corporation has taken up the idea of making the river pollution-free. To bring that, the work of the sewage treatment plant has already started with the help of the Centre. Presently the Mahananda River is almost pollution free but in the long run, they are aiming to make the river completely pollution free. With this thought, the fish were released today.
