SMC launches an encroachment removal campaign in front of Siliguri District Hospital

Siliguri, 28th February: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has once again taken major action against shopkeepers who have encroached with goods on the sidewalk in front of Siliguri District Hospital by spreading goods on the footpath.

A few days ago, with the help of the police, the Municipal Corporation cleared the footpath in front of the main gate of Siliguri District Hospital. But within a month, some traders started operating business again by occupying the footpath in front of the hospital. As soon as the news was received, Siliguri Municipal Corporation once again launched a drive to remove encroachments with the help of the police.

On Tuesday, the footpath from the front of the district hospital to the court was cleared. The businesspeople alleged that such kind of harassment is being done to them again and again. They further complained that no actions are being taken against the people who are operating businesses by occupying several places in the city. The businessmen further demanded to allot them a special place to operate their business if they are removed from the business.

In this regard, Mayor Goutam Deb said that the footpath will be made suitable for the movement of people. Gradually, encroachments will be removed from footpaths from other places as well.
