SMC election 2022: Many accused of not following Covid protocols issued by election commission

Siliguri, 05th January: The rapidly increasing number of coronavirus cases in the country is fuelling the third wave. At present, the state government has imposed restrictions across the entire state. People spotted on the roads without mouth masks are being arrested by police.

In the meantime, many questions are being raised regarding the election campaign of upcoming Siliguri Municipal Corporation polls. While the Election Commission has directed the candidates to not hold any roadshow or padayatra until further notice, the rules are being defied in some wards. Furthermore, the State Election Commission’s instruction to hold door-to-door campaigning with a maximum of five people is also being disobeyed.

It has been alleged that padayatras are conducted in some wards without following the guidelines. Many are even spotted not wearing masks. The opposition parties have raised numerous questions on Trinamool Congress. In return, TMC claimed that BJP and CPIM are also campaigning in many places without following COVID rules.

At the same time, Left Front District Secretary Saman Pathak and BJP leader Raju Saha stated that many Trinamool candidates are campaigning without following the Covid protocols. A complaint will be raised in this concern.

On the other hand, Trinamool district chairman Alok Chakraborty said that other party candidates are also campaigning without following the COVID norms.
