Siliguri, 27th July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) organized a plantation program along with the restoration of large trees that were collected from various locations along the banks of River Mahananda in the vicinity of Suryasen Park area of Ward No. 10 under the SMC. The event saw the presence of Mayor Goutam Deb, along with the Mayor Councilor and Ward Councilor.
Reportedly, during road widening projects, numerous old trees were cut down, which normally take many years to grow. Deforestation has emerged as a pressing concern in the era of global warming, as trees are being sacrificed for various government projects and infrastructure development. In light of this issue, the SMC has taken proactive steps to preserve and protect the trees.
Mayor Goutam Deb addressed the media during the event, highlighting the city’s transformation in the upcoming year. He emphasized the corporation’s commitment to creating a sustainable and culturally enriched environment in Siliguri, aiming to build a vibrant and ecologically conscious cityscape.
