Siliguri, 17th July: Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Bir Bikram Rai conducted an inspection of Bidhan Market, one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs, on Friday to review ongoing infrastructure work and direct necessary repairs.
The Commissioner was accompanied by officials from various municipal departments, personnel from the electricity department, and representatives of the Bidhan Market Byabasayee Samiti during the visit.
During the inspection, Rai reviewed the progress of the ongoing underground cabling project and assessed the condition of the fish market, internal roads, drainage system, and lighting facilities. He instructed the concerned departments to expedite repair and development work to improve the market’s infrastructure.
Speaking after the inspection, Rai said the underground cabling work, which is already in progress, cannot be halted. However, he assured that special measures would be taken to minimise inconvenience to the public during the execution of the project.
With the festive season approaching, the Commissioner said the work would be carried out in phases, and areas affected by construction would be restored to normal condition as quickly as possible to ensure smooth movement for traders and shoppers.
