Siliguri, 25th June: SMC Administrator R. Vimala and Municipal Commissioner Bir Bikram Rai expressed dissatisfaction over the garbage clearance system of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation after finding heaps of garbage and delays in waste removal across several parts of the city.
On Thursday morning, the two officials visited various areas of Siliguri, particularly Sevoke Road and several other important roads, to review sanitation work and assess whether garbage was being cleared on time.
During the inspection, they found garbage piled up at multiple locations. In some areas, waste had remained uncleared for long periods, while in others, cleaning work was being carried out much later than the scheduled time. Garbage was also found lying on main roads in certain localities.
Expressing strong displeasure over the situation, Municipal Commissioner Bir Bikram Rai questioned the negligence of the concerned employees and stated that several shortcomings existed in the sanitation system and needed immediate correction.
SMC Administrator R. Vimala also expressed dissatisfaction and said the issue would be discussed with the concerned staff members. The SMC Administrator directed that garbage be removed from city roads at the earliest and instructed that major roads and important areas be kept completely clean between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.
Apart from reviewing the sanitation system, the officials also visited Kanchenjunga Stadium and inspected various infrastructural facilities there.
