Situation grim in Sikkim: 22 jawans of Trishakti Corps still missing, rescue operation underway

Siliguri, 5th October: The Teesta River flowing through the Lachen Valley witnessed a devastating flash flood following a cloudburst over the Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim. Following this, 23 jawans of the Trishakti Corps went missing. On Wednesday evening, one of the 23 missing jawans was rescued. Currently, the search and rescue operation is on to rescue the remaining 22 missing personnel.


As per reports, Trishakti Corps has come forward with medical assistance and telephone connectivity to the stranded residents and tourists in the Chungthang, Lachung, and Lachen areas of North Sikkim. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to remove the vehicles stuck under the debris at Bardang near Singtam and search for the missing people in the lower areas of the Teesta River. The families of the missing individuals have been contacted and informed about the prevailing situation.

Meanwhile, other Indian Army personnel deployed in Sikkim and North Bengal regions are reportedly safe. However, due to the disruption of mobile connectivity, they are unable to establish contact with their families. Efforts are being made to resolve the issue.
