Siliguri, 13th July: Following the announcement by the West Bengal government, three prominent Rath Yatra committees of Siliguri were provided financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each.
The cheques were handed over by the Darjeeling District Magistrate during a special programme held at the Siliguri State Guest House on Monday afternoon. The committees that received the assistance include ISKCON Rath Yatra Committee, Shri Shri Narottam Gaudiya Math, and Rathkhola Sporting Club.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari joined the programme virtually and addressed representatives of the Rath Yatra committees. He stated that the state government is continuously working towards preserving and promoting religious and cultural traditions and assured support for historical events like Rath Yatra.
Darjeeling District Magistrate Harishanker Panicker, Siliguri Sub-Divisional Officer, and Phansidewa MLA Durga Murmu were present at the programme. The District Magistrate handed over the government grant cheques to representatives of the three Rath Yatra committees.
According to the state government, the financial assistance will help in organising the Rath Yatra festival in a better manner and contribute towards preserving Bengal’s cultural and religious heritage.
Representatives of various Rath Yatra committees, administrative officials, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
